My Dear Friends,

Morning dawns as brightly today as yesterday, the world continues to revolve, and the birds are happily squawking and feeding at the back yard bird feeder. And we have elected Barack Obama to be our president. We have elected Mark Udall to be our Senator. It was a very good night for Democrats nation-wide, for the Supreme Court, for our country, and for our future. Remember where you were Tuesday night when you heard our next president, your grandchildren will want to know, for Tuesday night this nation made history.

I am, of course, disappointed that I didn’t win election to the State House. But I am cheered by two things: the victories noted above, and the literally thousands of new friends I have made over the last year or so. I really did, and do, mean all those things I said about the environment, about creating new, good paying jobs and protecting our water, about each and every one of you. I am so grateful.

To my fellow candidates, I enjoyed walking the path with you. To my friends, to the 9,277 individuals who voted for me - there are not words to express my appreciation. We gained support from Republicans and Independents. The most votes won by any Democrat in our house district was 4,800 - we improved our position in the house district. Obama and Udall also lost in four of our counties.

The philosopher Horace wrote: “Life grants nothing to us mortals without hard work.” The last year has seen a great deal of hard work by a number of wonderful friends, family, and fellow candidates. And I think while we lost the election, by a very important measure, we won. We gained new friends, learned new things, and experienced a remarkable and transformational journey. A year ago, it was just me, talking about running for the State House - today, I find my life enriched by so many new and magnificent friends, by very educational experiences, and by a rich and profound personal experience of running for office. I do not regret the choice made last November, and I look forward to the next challenge. We are, all of us, bound together by this extraordinary experience, and I am most grateful.

I send my love and appreciation to each of you.

It’s not what we say -
it’s what we DO, Together

Thank you for your interest and support. A large part of my background consists of hotel management and with corporations that I founded and brought to success. The political arena has always been important to me and I’ve been known to assist candidates to victory. I especially worked hard to get out votes for Bill Ritter and Gail Schwartz. Being a candidate may be a new adventure yet I believe that you will elect someone who has the right ideas, philosophy and can best address your concerns in the house.

As one of my friends wrote when I was undecided: what we have is an outlet for you to express yourself and to do good works for the land, the people, the water the air, and the animals. Why not run for this office? Give it a try. It is good for the soul!”

I look forward to personally visiting all of the towns in our district. I know how to listen to each individual's concerns and fears. I'll be working non stop to win this seat on November 4th, 2008 but I need to begin now in order to develop my name recognition and to inform all in our district of my platform and desire to help make the changes our state needs

I sincerely ask for your support. I am anxious to meet you and to listen to your voices. You are always welcome to visit me at the CAVA (Crestone Area Visitors Agency) office in the Sangre de Cristo Inn in downtown Crestone.
